TUCSON, Ariz. -- Pima Community College on probation by accreditor
The Chicago-based Higher Learning Commission announced the move Wednesday.
The Arizona Daily Star says an accreditor's recent report was highly critical of the ethics and competence of Pima Community's top executives and longtime members of the college's governing board.
Problems identified ranged from corrupt contracting practices to board mishandling of sexual harassment allegations against the Tucson school's former chancellor, who resigned last year.
Four members of Pima Community's governing board are facing calls for their resignations.
The college's accreditation remains intact during the two-year probationary period.
During that time, Pima Community must correct widespread failings in its governance and administration.
The college would only lose its accreditation if it failed to make the changes the accreditor requires.
