PHOENIX -- The Arizona House has passed a resolution denouncing gun control measures and heralding the Second Amendment.
The vote on gun rights took place in Phoenix Monday as news broke out that two bombs had exploded near the crowded finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing two people and injuring more than 50 others.
Republican Rep. Kelly Townsend told the other lawmakers that she would want a gun to protect her family if they were faced with a similar emergency.
Democratic lawmakers opposed the measure, saying Arizona should instead pass laws that expand mental health care access and ensure public safety.
The Arizona Senate voted for the gun rights resolution in February.
