Tucson middle schoolers punished for misbehaving

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A Tucson middle school teacher allegedly punished her students for misbehaving during a fire drill by making them write ``I want to die in a fire'' on a piece of paper.

The students then reportedly had to walk around campus twice with the paper above their heads- once for up to 15 minutes and then again for five minutes.

Tucson Unified School District officials called the incident unacceptable and vowed to take action.

They declined to discuss Friday how the unidentified Alice Vail Middle School teacher might be disciplined, citing ``personnel confidentiality.''

Sarah Morales told Tucson TV station KVOA that she and her classmates later had to write ``I want to die in a fire'' 100 times as homework.

The girl's mother calls it a ``forced suicide note.''
