LUKEVILLE, Ariz. -- A Phoenix man is in custody for allegedly trying to smuggle nearly $11,000 in undeclared cash out of southern Arizona.

Officials with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Border Patrol say the man was arrested Wednesday at the Lukeville Port of Entry.

The name of the 22-year-old man hasn't been released by authorities yet.

CBP officers and Border Patrol agents conducting outbound inspections referred the man for further inspection.

During a search, authorities say they found $10,744 in U.S. currency concealed in the man's shoes.

The cash was seized and the man arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
