MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa man is denying accusations that he assaulted three teachers and the principal at his son's elementary school.
Court records show 36-year-old Newley Ryan Broughton pleaded not guilty to counts of aggravated assault and interference with an educational institution during his arraignment Wednesday.
Broughton was arrested in January after he tried to pick up his 5-year-old son at Madison Elementary despite a court order.
The order stemmed from a joint custody agreement with his ex-girlfriend that limited Broughton to picking his son up on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Broughton became belligerent when school officials told him he wasn't allowed to take his son.
Broughton was later arrested at his home and the kindergartener was released to his mother.
Broughton maintains that he never touched any of the school officials.
