Police: Phoenix man shot by in-law while calling 911
PHOENIX -- Phoenix police said a man fatally shot his brother-in-law, including once while the man was on the phone speaking with a 911 operator about the shooting.
Police said Steven Earl Lomax Jr. was arrested Sunday in the killing of 42-year-old Richard Swann.
According to police, Lomax's sister, who is the victim's wife, called police to report her husband had been shot multiple times.
Police say Lomax then took the phone, admitted shooting Swann and shot him again while speaking with the 911 operator.
Lomax surrendered when officers arrived.
According to police, Lomax later told a detective that shooting Swann was the only way to end Swann's physical and mental abuse of Lomax's sister.
Lomax was booked into a Maricopa County jail on a charge of first-degree murder.
