There was an age old adage that "Ladies only wear white after Easter." Or is it after the official first day of spring? Or Memorial Day?

But heck, we live in Arizona. Do we have to follow the "rules" here? We don't follow many others, so why would we worry about that one? After all, it gets hot here way earlier than most other places in the country.

But I'm originally from the South and the old white wearing rule was drilled into me as a kid so I followed it then and it continues to linger back in my brain, rearing up about this time of year. Along with the Easter/spring/Memorial Day conundrum, what about white sneakers? Then there's that thing they call "winter white."

Good grief!

Not that in the grand scheme of things anyone will die from wearing white "out of season," but there was a time when you might have thought some great societal lightning bolt would strike (See Marvin Schwartz's "A Southern Belle Primer: Why Princess Margaret Will Never Be a Kappa Kappa Gamma" -- recently updated to substitute Paris Hilton for Princess Margaret!)

Does anybody even care anymore? I went to the source of all things fashion, the department store -- Neiman Marcus-Scottsdale as a matter of fact -- where I asked Public Relations Manager and fashionista Lisa Pagel, the age old question…when can we wear white?

And here's your answer...

To wear white or not to wear white, that is the question.
