A recent report revealed that college graduates could struggle to find employment opportunities related to their field of study regardless of the current economic situation.
According to The Huffington Post, a National Bureau of Economic Research study released on Monday has indicated that as the U.S. continues to develop new technological systems, the economy will require fewer college graduates.
The paper’s lead author Paul Beaudry, an economist at the University of British Columbia, told the newspaper, “Once the robots are in place, you still need some people, but you need a lot less than when you were putting in the robots.”
“The Great Reversal in the Demand for Skill and Cognitive Tasks” said that American graduates are exiting with college degrees faster than their area of study can accommodate within the job sector. Beaudry explained that this has therefore created record-high debt between U.S. students and their educations.
