Home-built plane has hard landing in Arizona field
MARICOPA, Ariz. -- A pilot and two passengers escaped injury after a home-built small plane made a hard landing in a field in Maricopa, southeast of Phoenix.
Maricopa police say the single-engine, delta-wing Velocity 173 went down about 1:20 p.m. Monday after the plane apparently lost engine power.
A crop duster landed near the substantially damaged plane after seeing the hard landing to check on the three people aboard.
Their names weren't immediately available, but authorities say the Velocity 173 is registered to an owner in New York.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the agency will investigate the incident.
