A north Phoenix hotel was evacuated early Monday morning because of an underground gas leak.
Fire department officials said about 140 employees and guests were removed from the Holiday Inn at Cactus Road near Interstate 17 about 5 a.m.
The street was closed from 35th Avenue in both directions as a precaution, as were the freeway on- and off-ramps. They were all reopened by 11 a.m.
One person at the hotel and a firefigher had to be taken to the hospital.
