Suspect arrested in girlfriend's death in Mesa
MESA, Ariz. -- Authorities say a man suspected of killing his girlfriend in Mesa is in custody.
Mesa police said Friday that 35-year-old Travis Lafel Zah has been booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Witnesses say they saw a man and woman fighting near Mesa Drive and 2nd Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
They then reported seeing the woman run across the street and collapse in a neighbor's front yard.
One of the neighbors say the woman was bleeding from a gash on her neck and she died at the scene.
Police say they have identified the 24-year-old victim, but are withholding her name until her family is notified.
They didn't immediately know Friday if Zah had a lawyer yet.
