PHOENIX -- The chairman of the Republican Party in Maricopa County says he won't resign for comparing Gov. Jan Brewer to Judas because she wants to expand the state's Medicaid plan.

A.J. LaFaro said in an email to the Associated Press Thursday that he didn't intend to offend anyone at a House hearing on the expansion plan Wednesday evening. He says his remark reflected his passion on the subject.

House speaker Andy Tobin says LaFaro stepped over the line from impassioned debate and should apologize and step down. Tobin and Brewer are both Republicans.

Brewer spokesman Matthew Benson says the governor's been around long enough to know people will sometimes call her names and act irrationally.

LaFaro ended his testimony against the expansion by saying ``Jesus had Judas, Republicans have Governor Brewer.''

    or any other entitlement program. Looks like the ignorant GOP needs to freshen up his biblical history. And any dolt who thinks this is hurtful "truth" needs to do society a favor and follow Cobains lead.

    is nothing but a free for all. Just another freebie for the masses. We always hear about Medicare sucking the life out of the budget, but we pay for medicare: when we work and when we retire. We get sub par care and it still costs us 110 per month and 20 percent of the fee, plus a 750 deductible. Medicaid is free, no copay, free tests, hospital stays, food stamps, etc. I don't agree with Gov. Brewer but lets be real on what we can afford.

    he doesnt need to apologize but it was not professional. The voters need to decide if they want him in office or not so next election they need to vote him in or out. That is the greatest thing about America we get to vote people in or out. If we dont like them we vote them out. Just like Sheriff Joe if you dont like him vote him out dont do a recall because the turnout didnt go your way.
