Ex-Glendale school employee is accused of fraud

PHOENIX -- A former Glendale Elementary School District employee has been indicted on fraud-related charges.

The Arizona Attorney General's Office announced Wednesday that 53-year-old Deborah Lynn Santa Cruz is accused of theft, fraudulent schemes and artifices, misuse of public monies and forgery.

Santa Cruz now lives in Sedona. She was the executive secretary to the superintendent of the Glendale Elementary School District for several years until her June 2008 retirement.

The indictment alleges that from January 2004 to May 2008, Santa Cruz diverted district funds to an unauthorized personal bank account that she opened.

Santa Cruz also allegedly stole nearly $15,000 in public school funds, bought 715 books that the district never received and made false entries in logs and purchasing documents.

Authorities didn't know Wednesday if Santa Cruz has a lawyer.
