PHOENIX -- A suspect has been arrested in the death of a juvenile whose body was found in a Phoenix trash can nearly 15 years ago.
Phoenix police announced Wednesday that 32-year-old Israel Lomeli is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and possession of a dangerous drug.
They say Lomeli was arrested at his mother's Phoenix home Tuesday and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
A decomposed body was discovered in a trash can behind a Phoenix bowling alley on Aug. 24, 1998.
The body was finally identified as 17-year-old Pete Cadriel in 2009 through DNA evidence found at the scene.
Police say Cadriel had been reported as missing in 1998.
Authorities believe Lomeli fatally shot Cadriel and then got rid of the body with help from some friends.
