A 5-year-old boy fired a handgun Monday he found in a closet, Glendale police said.

A neighbor spotted the boy just before he fired the gun in the front yard of a home in the 700 block of E. Barbarita Street. The boy also had a shotgun, which he was unable to fire because it had a safety lock.

After police arrived, it was determined the boy was being watched by a 27-year-old babysitter who was watching a total of six children, including the boy.

No one was injured.

where was the trigger lock? you always store ammo and guns in separate locations. You always store them in a location higher than most kids can get to.... and if you can afford a gun you should also afford a small safe to put the gun into. this is an irresponible gun owner. should be force to take gun safety course.

    This is similar to . . .
parents of little ones who get a home with an unfenced pool and watch a lot of TV. Despite common sense, public awareness and preventive mechanisms, it just doesnt sink in. There has always been a segment of any species that doesnt readily catch on . . . always will be.

Get your story straight!! In Glendale all addresses are either north, south or west. Get your facts correct. This happened in Gilbert. http://www.azfamily.com/home/Boy-5-fires-handgun-in-Gilbert-front-yard-198878021.html
