PHOENIX -- A man who allegedly fired shots at a Phoenix police officer after an attempted traffic stop and chase is in custody.

Phoenix police say 19-year-old Dontrell Deshaun Williams was booked into jail Friday.

He's being held on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer and felony flight.

Police say detectives interviewed Williams and determined he was the driver of the vehicle.

An officer tried to pull over Williams for a minor traffic violation in northeast Phoenix about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The vehicle didn't stop and sped through a park.

The driver eventually stopped at a pedestrian bridge near State Route 51, ran up the walkway and allegedly fired multiple rounds at the officer.

Authorities say the policeman escaped injury.

Police didn't immediately know if Williams has a lawyer yet.
