PHOENIX -- The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said 11 people have been arrested in an operation targeting false identifications used to gain employment.

Sheriff's officials said three locations of America's Taco Shop were targeted Thursday afternoon.

Two of the restaurants are in Phoenix and the other in Tempe.

Investigators said 16 workers were identified as using false identities and Social Security numbers.

Four of the 11 arrested Thursday were booked into jail on suspicion of identity theft and forgery.

Sheriff's officials said the other seven arrested were turned over to federal immigration authorities for border violations issues.

    It's great that
they arrested these 11 people, but when are they going to start arresting and/or fining the business owners who hire them?

How much money was wasted on this
...two bit investigation to arrest taco-makers? Man...what a waste of law enforcement resources when MCSO still has 400+ sex crimes not-investigated, 40,000 unserved warrants and crime rising in the areas were MCSO is the sole law enforcement agency. ONE YEAR to nab 11 people? When will this insanity end?

That might be hard to go after the business owners who hired them since these people had stolen identities. The ones who knowingly hire them, yes, go after them but that doesn't sound the case here with identity theft. Hey Chemist, why don't you have a problem with identity theft? My cousin had his identity stolen and found out $50K later. Not a big deal to you from the sounds of your comment though.

    Chemist, you're so ignorant
Did you even stop to ponder how much money it costs all of us for ID theft? Not only does it cost the victim, but it also costs the financial institutions and or businesses that have to do their own internal investigations and possibly pay out money for the fraudulent charges. How do you think they recoup these losses? That's right moron, they pass the costs along to us. And what evidence do you have that MCSO is not working on those cases as well? Crawl back into bed with MIcho and let the adults have a conversation.

    I agree with misterosr
that the employers who knowingly hire these people, need to be held accountable. Take away the employers/jobs, and the problem starts to dissolve. We may ultimately pay more for some products due to higher labor costs, but the long term savings in reduced ID theft and fraud will greatly offset those higher production costs.

    twisted logic
It really amazes me that people who think the criminals should be left alone and the employers should be punished even have the mental capacity to use a keyboard. That is just dumb as a stump.
