BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- A man allegedly driving a stolen car is hospitalized after a chase with Avondale police and Arizona Department of Public Safety officers.

Authorities say the situation ended Thursday afternoon in Buckeye after Avondale police released a police dog and DPS officers fired into the car.

The suspect was injured, but it's unclear if his injuries came from a gunshot or the police dog.

The name of the man and his condition weren't immediately released.

Police say the pursuit began in Avondale when officers located a vehicle stolen Tuesday at gunpoint in Scottsdale and the suspect sped off.

Avondale police contacted DPS and officers began tracking the vehicle.

DPS officials say the driver fired at officers and threw something out a window before pulling over on a bridge above a canal.
