PHOENIX (AP)- Authorities say they still don't know if an unidentified man committed suicide when he fell to his death off an Interstate 17 overpass in Phoenix.

Phoenix police and the Arizona Department of Public Safety began receiving 911 calls around 7:30 p.m. Sunday about a person who had climbed the fence at the Northern Avenue overpass.

Police say the man either jumped or fell off the fence.

Officers found a man in his 20s on the northbound lanes of I-17. They say the man likely was run over by more than one vehicle after he landed on the roadway.

The man was declared dead at a hospital.

Police say the man's identity isn't known yet and the incident remains under investigation.
