PHOENIX -- Leaders of an effort to oust Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio say they've gathered a third of the signatures needed to force a recall election.

Recall organizers say they've gathered 120,000 of the more than 335,000 valid voter signatures required by May 30 to prompt an election.

The recall group has refused to abandon its bid to oust the sheriff even though Arpaio supporters are threatening legal action.

Larry Klayman, a lawyer representing Arpaio supporters, says his group will take legal action March 19.

Recall organizers say the sheriff has put immigration enforcement above other police priorities, while Arpaio supporters contend the effort is unconstitutional.

Arpaio campaign manager Chad Willems questions whether recall organizers have as many valid signatures as they claim.

Neither group has revealed its sources of funding.

    I was asked to sign...
As I approached my grocery store a nice lady out front with a clipboard asked me if I would sign the recall petition. I stopped and looked her in the eye and said, "Absolutely not." She then asked if I was happy with the job he was doing and I gave her the wrong answer; I told her "Yes I am." But what I wished I had said was, "No, not really. He threw his men under the bus by saying he didn't know what they were doing, implying it was all them. I'll never vote for him again but I don't believe in having a recall immediately after he won the election. It's not fair."

Good point about a recall being sought for
so soon after the election. The argument for recall seems to stem from issues prior to the latest election. Kind of makes it look like a bunch of sore losers looking for a way to get what they couldn't get at election time. Should have probably worked harder before the election to change the vote than after. But, that's what happens when you are over confident.
