Goodyear celebrating Canada Day at ballpark

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord has proclaimed March 6 Canada Day and the city is planning on celebrating before and during Team Canada's game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Canadian flags will distributed to the first 1,000 fans and there will be culinary treats and beverages that originated in the north.

"We'll also have a networking area so that people from Canada can identify with others from the country and get to know each other," said Debbie Diveney, ballpark spokeswoman.

According to the city, former Arizona State University right fielder Tim Smith, who signed with the Minnesota Twins in 2011, is on Team Canada's roster and expected to play.

First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Goodyear Ballpark is located at 1933 S. Ballpark Way.
