Civil rights group hosts Phoenix immigration rally

PHOENIX — Immigration proponents are hosting a daylong rally aimed at persuading local voters to back comprehensive immigration reform.
The immigrants’ rights group Promise Arizona is hosting the celebration and voter registration event in downtown Phoenix on Saturday.
The event at the First Institutional Baptist Church in Phoenix starting at 10 a.m. will feature a neighborhood walk to reach out to voters, Mexican folk dancing and speeches.
The rally marks the end of a four-day immigrants’ rights bus tour across Arizona hosted by Promise Arizona. The tour strove to highlight families disrupted by local and federal immigration policies.
The group met Friday with Democratic U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, a proponent of immigration reform.
