PHOENIX -- Teachers would have less time to save their jobs after being reprimanded under a measure backed by the Arizona House of Representatives.

In a 50-7 vote, the House advanced legislation Thursday that would reduce the time a teacher has to improve after being notified that their performance is inadequate.

Under the measure sent to the Senate for approval, teachers would have 45 instructional days to prove they are good educators and save their jobs. Currently, teachers have 90 days.

Teachers' union leaders say the measure will help weed out bad teachers and ensure students are learning.

If the measure became law, it would take effect in July.

    The Only Problem
The teachers are being evaluated on test scores. How would you like your job security based on if a 7th grader actually studied or did their work. I've been at this gig for 20 plus years and it's absurd to think that a teenager could have me fired. Wake up; the kids don't even realize it yet. They have all the power and the teachers are held captive. In math, 1+1 is the same in every class, however, in every other class nothing is exact. I'd like to see State Senators have Jr. High and High School kids determine their position; I bet they'd be the biggest wimps in the world.

    It's call JOB PERFORMANCE
Get Used to it !!! EVERYONE else in the REAL WORLD has to do this thing called "JOB PERFORMANCE" in order to be able to enjoy this other thing called "KEEPING THEIR JOBS".... for all of you teachers that live in the fantasy world of "TENURE" - the REST of us over in REALITY LAND have to CONSTANTLY EARN the right to KEEP our jobs BY DOING THEM. I'm sure that this is something that is NOT taught in most LIBERAL ARTS Colleges by Professors that have NEVER lived in the great state of reality either

This can be good if it gets rid of the
crap teachers (my 10 yr olds teacher). Next go after the pensions and any other program that puts tax payers on the hook for people who only work 20 years. Go after the superintendents who make 6 figures. No one deserves to be paid for not working. The rest of us work 40-50 yrs so should cops, teachers and all other public fund leaches. Do people still wonder where their SS and retirements funds get sucked into? We pay for 2 public funds retirees before we even get to withdraw SS for ourselves. What's wrong with this picture?
