Nicole Renee Wooten. (Tempe Police Department)

TEMPE, Ariz. -- A physical education teacher in the Phoenix Elementary School District has been arrested for alleged sexual conduct with a student.

Authorities say 36-year-old Nicole Renee Wooten was taken into custody Wednesday evening by Tempe police.

Police say Wooten is being held on suspicion of three counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

They say Wooten is a PE teacher at Herrera School for the Fine Arts and Dual Language in Phoenix.

At the time of alleged sexual conduct in 2005, police say the victim was an eighth-grade student at Herrera School.

Court documents show the girl was 12 at the time and the alleged incidents occurred at Wooten's residence in Mesa.

Tempe police say they began an investigation after receiving information from Phoenix police.

Wooten doesn't have an attorney yet.
