Electronics can now take an elastic turn, as the new stretchy battery can stretch up to 300 times its normal size and still work properly.
According to NBCNews.com the battery was created by Northwestern University engineer Yonggang Huang and John Rogers of the University of Illinois. Rogers received the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize in 2011 for his work on flexible electronics designed solely for the integration of electronics into the human body.
"Such stretchable batteries enable true integration with stretchable electronics in a small package," Huang told NBC News in an email.
The battery comes with a wireless power source,making it east to be recharged when it runs out of energy.
With this battery, new technology such as cardiac tissue-embedded heart monitors, may come to the forefront of the medical industry in the not too distant future.
