PHOENIX -- An Arizona House panel has passed a bill banning cities and counties from destroying guns turned in at buy-back programs.

The programs were designed to give people a safe place to get rid of unwanted weapons.

The bill passed committee Wednesday despite opposition from Democrats and testimony from Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox. She said people who turn guns in at the events want them destroyed so they can't be used to hurt someone.

Public Safety committee chairman Justin Pierce said he's been getting thousands of emails from constituents who want the practice banned.

The Mesa Republican argued the government shouldn't be destroying public property.

A bill requiring sales of seized weapons was enacted last year, but cities including Tucson have argued it doesn't apply to buy-back programs.

    More legislative absurdity. Gun worshipers
believe that guns are endowed with eternal life, and that any attempt at destruction is sacrilege.

No one in their right mind worships a gun. I think you are mistaking the unwavering belief in all articles written by our founding fathers in the Bill of Rights, including the right to bear arms, should not be infringed upon. Best Regards, Not a gun worshiper....

Gun worshipers aplenty abound in Arizona. Here we find them trying to interfere with voluntary transactions between citizens and the police. Why are they doing this?

    There are a few
people in the country that do worship the 2nd amendment, I'll give micho that, all 30ish people, but I doubt any of them believe guns are endowed with eternal life. The rest of Micho's closed-minded ignorant comment is just to tick you off.

Gun nuts think that they should be
able to use guns to protect property. However, these same gun nuts do not believe it is necessary to respect other's property rights when the property at issue is a privately owned gun.

I am gonna mark that as you being correct, minus the fact that you continue to group all gun nuts together as one when you are totally wrong and are flat out lying about gun nuts. But then again, lying is what you do daily here. So what part you are correct about, we should respect the wishes of gun owners to have their guns destroyed. You are absolutely correct! Just like the solder who died and last wishes was to have Ted Nugent play at his funeral but Obama went to the funeral and Ted was told not to come by the White House and not the family.
