A 1-year-old girl drowned Tuesday after falling in a family pool, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

The girl was under the care of her grandmother when she fell in the pool about 1:30 p.m. The backdoor of the home in the 34000 block of North Barzona Trail was left open.

The grandmother found the girl a short time later and called authorities before pulling the girl out of the pool and performing CPR.

The child was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to Cardon Children's Hospital, where she died a short time later.

Time for AZ to secure pool fencing
Again, every day in Arizona, because irresponsible adults don't fence in their pools and they don't watch their children. A little life lost because no one really cared about that baby. No, you didn't care, or you would have taken every precaution to keep the child from harm. Like cabinet locks and electric socket plugs and making sure the floor was picked up with anything they may put into their mouths. Like making sure the doors were locked so they couldn't get into an unsecured pool, to drown. Anybody else think it is time to have all pools fenced in and secured? .
