Arizona Clean Elections funding limits raised for 2014

PHOENIX -- Arizona's Secretary of State is adjusting funding limits available to candidates using Clean Elections money to run their campaigns.
Ken Bennett's office said the upward adjustments will be in place for the 2014 election cycle. Participants qualify for public funding by gathering $5 contributions from eligible voters and agreeing to comply with spending and contribution limits.
Candidates for governor will be awarded $754,000 for the primary and $1.13 million for the general election. Secretary of State and Attorney General candidates can spend $195,000 in the primary and $293,000 in the general election. Candidates for Legislature get $15,000 for their primary races and $23,000 for the general election.
The money comes from the Citizens Clean Elections Commission created by voters in 1998. It collects money from court surcharges and tax checkoffs.
