Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley said Cody Nimrod was caught red-handed.
"He admitted to what he had done," he said. "He smelled of gasoline, he had a lighter and a can of gasoline."
Nimrod was charged with felony arson of a residential structure and misdemeanor reckless burning.
