PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- Authorities in northern Arizona say two Phoenix women are in custody for allegedly passing counterfeit money in Prescott Valley.

Prescott Valley police said officers responded to a call Wednesday about a counterfeit bill passed at a supermarket.

The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived.

While investigating that case, police said another call came in about people passing counterfeit currency at a clothing store.

Officers arrested Nancy Cardenas, 23, and Lizeth Duran, 22.

Police investigators said they're tied the suspects to passing or attempting to pass fake $100 bills at Alberston's, Fry's and Kohl's.

Both women are being held in Yavapai County Jail on suspicion of forgery and possessing a forged instrument.

Police didn't immediately know Friday if either Cardenas or Duran have retained lawyers.
