PHOENIX -- Gun rights supporters carried holstered handguns, semi-automatic rifles and signs in support of their Second Amendment rights Friday morning outside of the Arizona State Capitol.

The group of approximately 100 people are concerned with the possibility of much stricter gun control laws coming out of Congress after the Newtown school shooting. Holly Murphy said she feels the need to have an AR-15 rifle which could eventually fall under an assault weapons ban.

"I'm speaking up for women who want AR-15s and high-capacity ammo magazines. We're defending our homes and children and we need the extra rounds. There could be multiple intruders. A 250-pound man who intrudes into a home may not be taken down with four bullets."

Murphy also fears the possibility of much tighter gun laws.

"First it's our high-capacity magazines," she said. "Who knows what it will be next? I'm here to make sure our rights are not taken away."

The group largely doesn't support universal background checks and said it's time to start enforcing the laws already on the books.

Mike Smith said gun opponents are using tragedies like the Aurora, Colo. movie theater shooting and the Sandy Hook school shooting to take the rights away from legal gun owners.

"They think taking guns away is going to stop people from killing each other? It's not. They're jumping onboard with an assault weapons ban when they account for less than 1 percent of all gun deaths."

    If these people
would just stop using common sense and facts and start thinking the progressive way, gun control would be so much easier!

Shhhhhhh, don't tell the gun nuts, NRA and those who cling to their bibles and guns! Oh wait, they already know cause they are using common sense and facts. No wonder Ted Nugent served up Piers Morgan the other day. My bad!

This particular gun nut group opposes the
simple expedient of universal background checks. They say we should enforce current laws. Right. Our current, inadequate system of background checks makes it super easy for the home invaders that this group fears to get the guns that will be used against the gun nuts themselves. It's like having two two seperate boarding lines at the airport. One for the screening the law abiding air travelers. The second that waves the terrorists and cartelistas through without so much as a how do you do. Their objection to gun control arises from unreasoning paranoia.

I wonder if they are all citizens as the
headline claims. Did KTAR reporter Cross check their papers. There could certainly be some illegal crossers or visa overstays among them who might not should be carrying guns.

You don't know much about the current universal background checks do you? You should really learn about it some time, and not from the left wing media but from the actual people who do background checks. And you know me, I'm all for closing the gun show loophole (minus keeping an opening for inheritance so my children will get my guns.) Please explain how the current universal background checks are inadequate besides the gun show loophole.

Why, 1&1, would you refer to them as "universal"
when you know that the gun show loophole alone allows millions of unchecked sales to who knows whom?

Gun nuts see no problem with the following:
"In the case of Armslist.com, New York found that 54% of the private sellers they approached agreed to sell to an undercover buyer who admitted they were unlikely to pass a background check. The investigators posing as buyers actually met with private sellers operating through Armslist.com and bought four weapons including a Smith & Wesson handgun similar to that which killed Jitka Vesel. A New York investigator recorded his conversation with one seller. "No background checks?" the investigator asked. "No, I just take cash, and there you go," the seller replied."

For you Micho and I'll add a little more too, will you please explain how the current National Instant Criminal Background Check System is inadequate besides the gun show loophole and needing improvement on mental health? Actually every gun show have been to, all dealers are required to use the NICS, weird but please explain. I'll try and get back to you on Monday too. Micho, you have a fantastic un-American, anti-constitutional weekend!
