PHOENIX -- A resident at a Phoenix group home was shot dead by police, after he threatened to commit suicide, then pulled a gun on officers.

The standoff at 13th Place and Campbell Avenue lasted over a half-hour. The officers were unharmed and the other facility residents had been evacuated before the shooting.

Sgt. Trent Crump said the man had a history of mental illness and drug abuse.

That's an open ended phrase. Jumping to the defense of cops or the criticism of the kook is foolish. There is much more intel needed here but we don't care for crazy people and we give cops a favorable bias.
