PHOENIX — A resident at a Phoenix group home was shot dead by police, after he threatened to commit suicide, then pulled a gun on officers.
The standoff at 13th Place and Campbell Avenue lasted over a half-hour. The officers were unharmed and the other facility residents had been evacuated before the shooting.
Sgt. Trent Crump said the man had a history of mental illness and drug abuse.
A man was sentenced to over 27 years in prison for killing his stepfather in a 2022 Christmas Day shooting in Gilbert.
