listen Listen: Greg Stanton - Phoenix Mayor
Check out Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton's thoughts on gun control and Sheriff Arpaio's volunteer posse being trained for active shooter training by Steven Seagal.

On Wednesday, KTAR's Mac and Gaydos spoke with Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton on the issues of gun control and Sheriff Joe Arpaio's posses.

Arpaio wishes to put armed posses outside of local schools and plans to host a training event with actor Steven Seagal this weekend to prepare and educate interested volunteers.

"The idea that you have armed posses outside of schools is not something that I support," Stanton stressed. "But, I do support more attempt to get resource officers in schools not just from a safety perspective but also because the incredible benefit that those resource officers provide to children in terms of education and in terms of a trusting relationship."

While Arpaio favors more protection in and around schools, Stanton stated that he had a much different concern regarding the national gun crisis.

"We can't just do nothing, but we've got to be smart about it," said Stanton. "In my opinion, being smart about it involves not a single approach or a one-size-fits-all one things gonna solve the worlds problems we have to be smart about it and that why a more com approach which includes by the way one of the most difficult issues our so has to approach how do we better manage the mental health system."

Although Stanton admitted that fixing the mental health care system won't be an easy task, he remains a firm believer that it's a necessary action when dealing with the country's gun issue.

    Alarming Irony
It is no more alarming that while inroads to disarming the citizens of this country are being aggressively pursued, the presidents policy of killing American citizens without the slightest amount of due process has been leaked to the press. If you are not outraged then you are not paying attention, or patently brain dead. Combine this information with the fact that this administration was arming the cartels, who are in bed with hezbollah, and you have a clearer picture of what we are up against.

    safety not control
education about gun safety/responsibility would do more to save lives than any gun control law. We should hold ourselves accountable instead of the government trying to hold us accountable.

Enforce the thousands of laws already on the books. This will likely curb a great deal of the violence being celebrated by the media lately. P.S. Went shooting at Four Peaks this past weekrend. Awsome.

(with a Latin term thrown in). You might want to acquaint yourself fully with it. Your time is better spent addressing the arguments that I advance and the fact that underlie them, rather than in personal attack.

Try non sequitur instead of QED.
The man immediately rules out any consideration of the portion of the murder rates he considers attributable to gun violence. Why does he do this? Because otherwise he has no argument supported by his constrained set of facts. Fortunately, here in the U.S. those numbers are available to us and they show the importance of making workable gun control legislation a priority.
