A crash involving multiple motorcycles closed Interstate 17 in Phoenix for a short time on Wednesday.

A 38-year-old man and 12-year-old girl were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The freeway initially was closed, but only the HOV lane was blocked after emergency crews left.

There was a 10-mile backup extending along the northbound I-17 to Interstate 10 from Indian School Road.
