American women in 1950 and 2010 have very little in common, except that they both have the same job.
After all the progress women have made breaking into the male-driven work force, the American woman’s most common job is being a secretary.
According to CNN Money, 96 percent of the four million people who worked as a secretary or administrative assistant were women between 2009 and 2010.
“The good news is over the past 40 years, there are very few jobs in which women have not broken through,” Cameron said. “The glass ceiling is cracking in all different directions, but the bad news is, there is still a sticky floor. Most women still work in traditionally female jobs, like administrative support.”
Administrative assistant could still be the top job for women in 2020, since the category is projected to grow 12 percent by the Labor Department.
