CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -- Pinal County Recorder Virginia Ross has changed her mind after requesting an extra $12,000 a year in pay for handling the county's elections.

The county Board of Supervisors approved the request on a 3-2 vote on Jan. 30, but Ross has decided she doesn't want the compensation after all.

Ross is a Republican who was elected in November. She has a base salary of almost $64,000.

Supervisor Pete Rios is the only Democrat on the five-member board.

The Casa Grande Dispatch says Rios questioned the legality of giving an elected official additional pay on top his or her base salary.
