FLORENCE, Ariz. -- A freshman at Poston Butte High School said he was suspended from school for possessing a picture of a gun.

According to ABC15.com, Daniel McClaine Jr. saved a picture of an AK-47 on top of a flag on his school-issued computer. While McClaine had intended to use the picture as his desktop background, a teacher noticed the image and turned him in.

For his actions, McClaine was suspended Friday, as the picture was in violation of district policy which states that students are prohibited from "sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures."

"This gun wallpaper does not show anything that's violent. It's not showing anybody getting shot in any way," McClaine told ABC15.com. "It's just a picture of a gun. It's nothing -- nobody getting shot, nobody getting it pointed at them, it's nothing."

In response to McClaine's suspension, a spokeswoman with the Florence Unified School District released the following statement:

Although we cannot specifically discuss student discipline, we can certainly agree that violence in schools is a sensitive and timely issue. Students, parents and staff are on edge, and the daily news delivers more reasons for caution. All of us must work together to protect our kids and to cultivate an environment that is conducive to learning.

McClaine's suspension will last three days.

    Really??
Suspending a student for doing nothing wrong?? How was that picture offensive? It wasn't showing someone getting shot/killed! These anti-gun goons are taking this way too far! I'm not always in agreement with this organization, but, bring in the ACLU on this.

    sending or displaying offensive...
OK. Fine. Now, can they also institute a few other polices, like teachers should bath, and brush their teeth? How about health class? There were some pretty offensive images in there? How about super fat people? Aren't they offensive?

    Any responsible parent
should now be making plans to home school your kids. Enough of these stories of retarded teachers and staff set to brainwash, punish and drug your kids into mindless compliance. Here's your sign.

    Photo of Gun
This is getting ridiculous. You see more on TV in the way of violence with prop that are weapon. I could care a less that this child had a photo of a gun. It might of been a project at school to bring something in that provoked a reaction in a speech class. I would say the student should receive an "A". Try college with nudes for photograph or a painting class. You are all getting brain washed by this administration.

    Everyday we hear..
..about school administrators overreacting when it comes to guns. Toy guns, bubble guns, foam guns and now a picture of a gun. What have we become? Even little kids overheard talking about a toy gun will send a school into lock down including SWAT and helicopters. And forget about pointing your finger like a gun playing cops and robbers, you will get suspended. Please stop, you are scaring the children.

    So, offensive....
....is basically just anything they say it is? Doesn't seem like a solid policy. Also, what does a photo of a rifle have to do with violence in schools? Do photos of sports cars have anything to do with drunk driving?

    KTAR becoming more Liberal ?
Any stories that makes guns look bad is always on front page of all the liberal news outlets ... thus helping to push Obama's agenda for gun control. Did anybody out there heard about the armed security that probably saved multiple students' lives at another school shooting in Atlanta yesterday, because he was armed? If you haven't, try other outlets like www.theblaze.com / www.drudgereport.com and don't be a sheep.
