PHOENIX -- A political group has filed paperwork with the Arizona Secretary of State's office to launch a recall campaign against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Respect Arizona will need to collect more than 350,000 valid signatures in the next 120 days to force a recall election.

The 80-year-old Arpaio was elected in November to his sixth consecutive term in office.

He filed paperwork last week indicating that he plans to run again in 2016.

In a statement Thursday, Arpaio say he believes the recall effort is over his stance on enforcing laws including those pertaining to illegal immigration.

Arpaio says if people insist on a recall drive, he believes county voters know exactly ``who they want in office and they won't be fooled by outside special interests.''

    I hope.....
they ask me to sign their petition so I can tell them to go straight to hell and sit by their mothers. I imagine the signatures will come from the crime ridden west side and South Phoenix. Who are these low lifes? Name them in the media. Maybe that thing in the white house will sign the petition: after all he sued AZ on behalf of the mexican govt.

this is a waste of time
and money. I don't like the guy, i wish he'd retire, i suspect he'll die in office. Our state is chalk full of idiots who will vote for him. For the love of god he didn't investigate child molestation cases and he still got reelected. For good or bad we're most likely stuck with his ignorance until nature takes its course.

    Joe is the man
for over 20 years the Sheriff has faced a recall and each time he wins. One of these days he will lose. Think of it even if he runs in 2016 that would put him 88 yrs old at the end of that term so just relax you only have to deal with him 4 maybe 8 more yrs. I hope his replacement is just like him. lol

If you don't like the Sheriff, please feel free to relocate to that criminal illegal wasteland called California. That's probably where most of the naysayers come from.
