The vegan favorite, quinoa, is now a luxury for those that once held it as a staple of their diets.
According to The Guardian, quinoa, once a cheap, affordable meal for villagers in Peru, is now too expensive for them due to high demand in western countries.
Aside from rendering locals the inability to eat this vegetable, the export of quinoa has caused the depletion of Peruvian water sources.
The cause of quinoa’s high demand quinoa is its low fat and healthy dietary qualities, very popular with vegetarians.
