PHOENIX -- He's been one of the state's most outspoken critics of President Obama on illegal immigration and the botched gunwalking operation known as 'Fast and Furious.' Now Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said he will not enforce any gun laws the president creates by executive order.

Babeu shipped off a strongly worded letter to President Obama that accuses him of using tragedies such as the Connecticut school shootings as a way to push a gun control agenda.

"Why isn't the focus on the mentally ill? Providing more resources to identify who these people are to get them help but to restrict them from owning or possessing firearms."

Babeu told KTAR he finds it ironic that an administration that put 2,000 weapons into the hands of Mexican drug cartels with the Fast and Furious would try to take away Second Amendment rights.

"I am very alarmed, as all Americans and patriots should be at the growing power and strength of the federal government and very concerned that the president, who is a constitutional lawyer, believes that he can even do this," he said.

In his letter to Obama, Babeu quotes Reagan:
Former President Ronald Reagan said it best, "The right of the citizen to keep and bear arms must not be infringed if liberty in America is to survive. (1975)" A more recent Reagan quote, at a ceremony at George Washington University: “I want to tell all of you here today something that I’m not sure you know. You do know that I’m a member of the NRA. My position on right to bear arms is well known. But I want you to know something else. And I’m going to say it in clear unmistakable language. I support the Brady bill and I urge the Congress to enact it.(1991)"

    I actually think
someone else said it best "By calling attention to 'a well regulated militia,' 'the security of the nation,' and the right of each citizen 'to keep and bear arms,' our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy... The Second Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the Second Amendment will always be important." - John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) 1959 letter to E.B. Mann quoted: Gun Digest 1974

Here is another quote for you Micho
'All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party." -Mao Tse Tung, Problems of War and Strategy, Nov 6 1938

    Well Babeau wont be alone
Others will follow. Feinstein has been placed on the podium to present a bill that even she knows will not fly. Both the GOP and the DEMs have already voiced their opposition. But this charade is simply to pave the way for Obama to bypass the will of the people, the will of Congress, and Constitutional law with the claim that it is what is best for us. Were Obama to simply sign it into law without going through the motions, it would be more blatantly treasonous than latently so.

The quote in regards to the Brady Bill
by Micho is a moot point. The Brady Bill only called for background checks, not the banning of any specific weapons. However, I think President Regan would not have supported the Brady Bill had it called for the banning of ownership of a particular type of weapon. Babeu's letter was well written, it will be interesting to see any sort of response from the President.
