Suspect convicted in attempted murder of officer
TUCSON, Ariz. -- One of three suspects accused of shooting at a Tucson officer last August has been convicted in the case.
Authorities said 20-year-old Sergio Rojo-Valenzuela was found guilty Tuesday of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said the shooting occurred Aug. 12 as officers were trying to arrest three armed men. The suspects had been accused of brandishing weapons and pointing them at people at a car wash.
A car chase ensued and police said one of the officers was fired on but escaped injury. Rojo-Valenzuela was arrested in September.
His sentencing date hasn't been set yet. The other two suspects are awaiting trial.
