PHOENIX -- The federal government reports that Arizona's graduation rate for the 2009-2010 was 74.7 percent, well below the national average of 78.2 percent.

Arizona had the highest dropout rate at 7.8 percent.

The rates are being reported by the National Center for Education Statistics, which is part of the U.S. Department of Education.

Graduation rates indicate the percentage of ninth graders who go on to graduate within four years. This is the highest level of on-time graduation in almost 40 years.

States' rates ranged from 57.8 percent in Nevada at the low end to 91.4 percent in Vermont at the high end.

The dropout rate is crazy, YET everyone I talk to seems to be making 6 Figure incomes !! In an economy that is still one of the worst in the nation and the highest dropout rate we have High Dollar youngsters walking amongst us. Maybe this is the problem with the rest of the country. Get kids to drop out more !! We're doin it here folks, let's shut down the schools and be free and rich.

    Hmmm....
Take illegal immigrants and illegal immigrant children out of the count. Then where would we be? Probably not first, but definitely not last.... Schools here are pretty bad. I would really like to see a state by state break down comparing percent of illegal immigrant population to rate of drop out. Why would you expect anything less from those who do not respect our customs and our laws...

    Hmm this time frame
was when SB1070 was signed and there was a mass exodus of ILLEGALS and their KIDS leaving. That would account for this rating.
