PHOENIX -- Lawyers for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio have denied allegations made in court by the U.S. Justice Department that his office has carried out a pattern of discrimination by racially profiling Latinos in its regular traffic and special immigration patrols.

The attorneys made the denial in a court filing Monday that serves as Arpaio's official response to a civil rights lawsuit filed by the Justice Department against the sheriff's office.

The agency also denied the lawsuit's claims that it retaliates against its critics and punishes Latino jail inmates with limited English skills for speaking Spanish.

A similar lawsuit filed by a small number of Latinos who alleged racial profiling in Arpaio's immigration patrols was tried this summer by a federal judge.

That judge hasn't yet issued a ruling.

    What did you expect?
That the biggest Bigot in Maricopa County would recognize his racial profiling? Lets wait for the judge's ruling. This will be good.

    Consider this....
none of the actual facts support claims of profiling. The arrests for traffic violations, the number of citations issued pretty much follow the states demographic breakdown. It has always been my opinion that the "race card" is taught to children by parents who always want to blame someone else for their mistake. If this were not true, then why do we never hear of people saying anything positive happens to them based upon their race. For example, a latino/a being hired by an all latino/a work crew or a black person being cast in a Spike Lee film?

Probably because that would open the door for the rest of us to yell discrimanation....He got the job because he was latino, or the movie role because he was black, etc, etc. The media would have you think that only the white population is capable of being racist, or discriminatory.

    Illegal racial profiler deluxe, Arpaio,
told the Court in his filing that he does not do "raids" or "sweeps". Right. One need only go to the MCSO website to pull up the Sheriff's press releases which proudly trumpet his "raids" and "sweeps." Lying to the Court is not likely to advance Arpaio's legal case.

    @ Raids and Sweeps
Sweeps are effective and both Arpaio and the media have done a poor job of explaining that raids are not conducted. They investigate id theft and issue warrants against those people who work at a particular business.
