TUCSON, Ariz. -- Forest Service officials are closing and plan to clean up three trash-filled shooting sites in Redington Pass.

The department is also considering an application for a proposed shooting range on Coronado National Forest land in the area near Tucson.

The Arizona Daily Star reported that the three areas to be fenced off have been used for unsupervised recreational shooting, drawing complaints from hikers, mountain bikers and others about trash, noise and potential danger.

Forest officials said they're considering what to do with the sites, and they confirm they're studying an application by the Tucson Rod and Gun Club to construct a shooting range in Redington Pass.
