TUCSON -- Authorities say a man who was fatally struck by a pickup truck in Tucson appeared to intentionally step in front of the vehicle.

Pima County Sheriff's officials identified the dead man as 19-year-old Dimitri Thomas Makansi.

Deputies responded to the scene after 911 callers reported the incident at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

They say Makansi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told investigators that the pedestrian stepped into the roadway in front of the pickup.

They also say the 60-year-old driver of the truck tried to avoid striking the man.

Investigators say the driver was going at or below the speed limit at the time of the collision. Authorities say he remained at the scene and wasn't cited in the case.
