A Guadalupe leader said his town does not want Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's volunteer posse to patrol schools in his city.

Coucilmember Andrew Sanchez said the armed posse members are underqualified and may present a threat to the town.

"We cannot track them," he said. "We cannot hold them accountable for issues. If they decide to go out and commit crimes against our children, what are we going to do?"

Sanchez said Arpaio and his deputies have raised numerous controversial issues, including abuse of authority, racial profiling and tampering with evidence.

"We feel this is not the time or place for political posturing," he added.

Arpaio was quick to fire back against Sanchez's statments.

"He's using the politics," said Arpaio. "He's trying to throw in the racial allegations into this program and that is sickening. That is sickening for him to use kids and teachers for political reasons."

    Apparently,
this council member thinks that the Sheriff's VOLUNTEER posse are actually deputies.....he is so sadly wrong!

We only ponder how many of the posse
members have criminal backgrounds. Several years ago it was revealed that people with felonies were part of it. Any pedophiles? We don't know. But, knowing Arpaio's habits of shielding child rapists and child molesters (remember the 400 + sex crimes), I would not be surprised that in the posse, there would be some "colorful" characters (to put it nicely). I stand with the Guadalupe leader...NO TO THE GRANDSTANDING!!! Lets not use our children as political pawns for the sake of Arpaio's ego.

    proof of prejudice
This is proof positive that the Sheriffs critics would hate anything he does, even when it is an excellent solution. This is a far better solution than arming teachers or administrators and will not infringe on our rights, and won't cost the taxpayers a dime. The "resourse officer" program is an excellent program that offers a multitude of benefits but we dont have the financial resourses to effectively fund it.

Assuming the wannabes do not overstep their civilian volunteer status and hassle those they whose looks they don't like, their presence may be a good thing in some cases. Guadalupe especially suffered under Arpaio's illegal racial profiling degradations a ways back, and memories of that misconduct still sting.

That is what I give Arpaio's latest publicity stunt. This ridiculous move will fade away when the cameras are turned off. BTW...I'm being optimistic. Would not be surprised if it is turned off before that.

    Question regarding Arpaio's posse...
are these the same posse folks that were caught naked with prostitutes in a failed MCSO sting in 2004? (there are even published/public pictures of these clowns). Remember that the County Attorney refused to prosecute any of the "arrested perps" because of the shady and spotty "police work"????!!!! And these jokers are watching our kids now?
