PEORIA, Ariz. (AP)- A Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being shot in Peoria.

The suspect sought in the shooting has been found dead. He's identified as 54-year-old Donald Miller Sr. of Peoria.

Authorities identify the deputy as Ruben Garcia, who's a 29-year veteran.

He was shot multiple times in a Peoria lot early Tuesday after he stopped a man in a truck.

The man's former girlfriend had earlier called authorities to say he was suicidal.

Witnesses say they heard shots ring out and saw the deputy on the ground in the parking lot.

Two Peoria police officers, Lt. Steve Hadley and Officer Aaron brewer, spotted the suspect, who fired at officers and was then shot.

SWAT team officers ultimately found Miller dead in a vehicle. Authorities say it's still unclear if he committed suicide.

    victim of the ready access to firearms by the suicidal. Gun nuts tell us that having guns in the possession of the mentally and emotionally unstable makes for a polite society. Right. "Every study that has examined the issue to date has found that within the U.S., access to firearms is associated with increased suicide risk."

    What's your point? People will commit suicide by any means necessary. Many studies show that guns are not the leading cause of suicide so enough with the anti gun kooky rants.

    think that more laws are the answer to violence involving guns. Common sense and facts show that is just not the case. Every study has shown that suicide is committed by many different means and more popular methods than guns. Kooky gun rants aren't working for ya micho.

    I love my family & country more than my enemy, especially those that tries to kill us. As for feeding the poor, take care of the sick, shelter the homeless, I would like to help but I'm already taxed to death ... nothing left, sorry. Prison, why are they there? As for those suicidal, if not gun, then a car, hammers, etc. would do, just saying ... so please stop it with the gun control otherwise only the government and the criminals will be the only two left with a gun and good citizens are caught with their pants down.

    Guns put would be rescuers at far greater risk than most other means of suicide attempt, as the attack on the Brave MCSO Deputy makes abundantly clear.

    The GOLDEN RULE is more than what Jesus said. It applies to HUMANITY and it is a BASIC HUMAN TRAIT for decent people everywhere on the planet (Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Agnostics, Atheists, etc), .     What...my remarks calling out the Tea-Partiers (aka American Taliban) to show their pseudo-Christian faith by "loving thy enemy"? If that is offensive...I don't know what won't be. Those who call for the mercilessness killing of people that have allegedly (because no trial has been completed) committed a crime, just to fit their bitterness/hate agenda is disgusting. But...I will continue to call it out.
