MONROE, Conn. -- Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is expected to visit Newtown, Conn., Friday to meet with families affected by the second-largest school shooting in the country's history.

A spokesman for Connecticut's lieutenant governor said Thursday that the visit by Giffords and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, was planned but not confirmed for the afternoon.

Giffords has been making a long recovery from being shot in the head at an event in Tucson.

A lady in phoenix nearly cut her husband in half with a car, for not voting. I don't see the big push to ban cars. You are mistaken if you think that incidents like Newtown will stop. Should be addressing the lack of quality mental health care. Everyone should now know why there were mental institutions. Sometimes, you just cant fix mental illness with pills..

We all know that Giffords didn't plan anything
She is simply being used by a group of people with an agenda and no morals who will do anything and use anyone to gain more power and control over others. Disgusting.

    Is anyone else tired..
of hearing every little thing that Gabby Giffords does? I'm truly happy she is recovering but we don't need to hear everything she is doing now. Not many people even heard of her until Tucson... sorry.
