Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.)

PHOENIX -- Arizona Congressman David Schweikert said the nation avoided the fiscal cliff but is still heading for dangerous territory.

The United States House approved the Senate package that stops huge middle-class tax hikes and across the board spending cuts from taking effect.

Schweikert, a Republican, opposed the package because he said it will only add more debt load onto the nation.

"We had a president who kept demanding a balanced approach. His own deficit commission said for every dollar in revenue we should have three dollars in spending cuts," Schweikert said late Tuesday night.

"Guess what his balanced approach does? Spends more money. We're going to run another trillion-dollar deficit this year. Are the Democrats and the president going to tell the truth on what they're willing to do to reduce those crushing numbers?"

Arizona Republicans Jeff Flake, Trent Franks, Paul Gosar and Ben Quayle also voted no on the fiscal-cliff package. Arizona Democratic Congressmen Raul Grijalva, Ron Barber and Ed Pastor voted in support of the package.

Now i've heard it all. "The GOP is stubborn to contribute to it"" ? ? ? They are the chief framers of it. Less taxes do not create jobs. Did not the near complete financial melt down during a time of RECORD LOW TAXES prove nothing. Trickle down doesn't work. Only one thing rolls downhill and it's not money. You should really read up on the history of trickle down, horse and sparrow, reaganomics. None of that crap works for MOST americans. The top 5% love it to death. ____ http://www.motherjones.com/files/images/change-since-1979-300.gif ____ this says it all

I totally agree increase taxes on all of us, and decrease spending. This is honestly a no brainer.

Schweikert could lead by example and demand
an end to all Federal funds for every Federal project and the Federal subsidizing of state and local projects in Arizona. That courageous step would prove his commitment to spending cuts.

    The confused and light minded
fail to grasp the reality here. We were all lied to, played when they said spending would need to be brought under control and taxes would not increase for the middle class. The GOP folded, no talk of job creation occurred, the small business man was burdened and spending will continue.

Tea Party phonies stake a claim to fiscal
conservatism. Time for them to put up or shut up. They need to show their constituents a list of the cuts to Federal spending that should be made in their districts to bring the Federal budget into balance.
